Hi,
My Co-worker is trying to create outlines of a map file to send to
print. the font sizes are very small so when creating to outlines,
the
fonts and lines in the maps appear to be way to bold to read when
printed.
How do we create outlines and still have it come out crisp, clean and
legible?
thanks,
Nora |

Output them at sufficiently high resolution that there's no need for
hinting which is depended upon to regularize and grid-fit the
outlines.
Unfortunately, w/ the pretty-much-demise of film-based proofs it's
hard to get a proof which is at precisely the same dpi as the output
plates will be.
Ask the printer to check things on a soft proofing system on-screen
which renders at the same dpi as the platemaker --- for a Prinergy RIP
this would be called a ``VPS'', other systems have similar
capabilities.
One has to wonder why you're converting to outlines though --- why not
just embed the fonts? That way if the hinting is helpful it'll be
available and will be used.
